Enjoying Mountain Biking

Riding a mountain bike(MTB) allows you to choose between riding though the forest, along a river, and of course on paved roads. We recommend a mountain bike if you are wanting to be close to the nature of Hakuba township. A mountain bike is ideal whether riding around town or challenging one of the downhill courses. The courses of Hakuba 47 and Iwatake have ups and downs which can be enjoyed by everyone from beginner level upwards.

Why not ride the gondola to the summit with your mountain bike? Beginners can descend the R7 track. More advanced riders are able to choose a course suited to their skill level. As well as mountain biking, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the area, so the whole family can have fun.

The aim was to offer a trail which concentrated the magic of a downhill track on this cross country course, and it includes a technical single track as well as a dual pump track that children can enjoy. The main trail is an exciting 6.9km ""Flow Trail"" from the summit to the foot of the mountain. This trail is suited to those with more experience, designed primarily as a ""Green Trail”. There are however some elements of a ""Blue Trail"" involved in the descent. With control and momentum, you are bound to enjoy this winding and rolling trail all the way to the bottom of the mountain.

There is an undeveloped woodland boardwalk running for more than 10 km along the eastern mountains of Hakuba, and from near the summit extend wonderful panoramic views. As there is plenty of wildlife, including bears, it is a good idea to carry a bell or other protection. There is a “Share the Trails” etiquette sign at the trailhead, so please read and observe this carefully.
